Many children are allergic to milk choose to leave at all cow's milk and other products that contain milk. Though these children are still more likely to get much benefit from cow's milk.
A recent study says blood tests are expected to help identify children who are still allergic to milk can tolerate milk products are heated and children who have a serious allergic reaction to all forms of cow's milk.
While previous research in mind that up to 75% of children allergic to milk still be able to tolerate heated milk.
This latest study found that the antibody immunoglobulin E (IgE) of children who react to milk is heated and unheated definitely have more epitopes than IgE antibodies from children who had reactions only to milk that is not heated. There is a direct correlation between the severity of allergic reactions with a number of known epitopes of IgE antibodies of a child.
"IgE antibodies can walk into a cell that produces chemicals and cause allergic reactions. Each type of IgE has a 'radar' specific to each type of allergen, such as cow's milk. Epitopes into place on specific molecules, such as milk proteins, which stimulate a specific immune response, "explains the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.
"Through these blood tests we hope to explain which one will be children who are allergic to milk that will be able to tolerate milk in a product that has been heated without having to experience problems in eating," says Dr. Hugh Sampson, professor of pediatrics, allergy and immunology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City, who was involved in the study.
