There is an interesting study published in the British Journal of Cancer that men finger longer than their ring finger, has a much lower risk of prostate cancer.
The researchers also said that the possibility to develop the disease 30 percent lower, and particularly for men younger.
"Our results indicate that the relative length of fingers can be used as a simple test against the risk of prostate cancer, especially in men aged under 60," said Ros Eeles, a professor at the Institute of Cancer Research in England and one of the authors of the study.
Finger patterns can help identify which men should undergo a routine examination, particularly in combination with genetic testing or other risk factors such as family history of this disease, he said.
In a study conducted between 1994 and 2009 that, Eeles and colleagues questioned more than 1,500 prostate cancer patients in England, along with 3,000 healthy men who are used as a comparison.
Carrying more than half of men have shorter index finger than ring finger. Compared with this group, men who have the index finger and ring finger same length - 19 percent of the comparison group - have a similar risk of prostate cancer.
But when the index finger is longer, the risk of developing the disease fell 33 percent. While men aged under 60 years have probably 87 percent lower in the cancer group.
Relative length of the second finger appears to be a marker of a different sex hormone levels faced baby in the womb, with low testosterone levels are associated with a longer index finger.
Previous research suggests that testosterone encourages the growth of prostate cancer.
Underlying the existence of an unexpected relationship between finger length with prostate cancer are the two genes, namely HOXA and HOXD, which controls the length of the finger and the development of sex organs.
